PENDLETON — Extra emergency food benefits for Oregon residents in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are coming to an end. Local organizations that provide food for those in need weighed in on the situation.

The Oregon Department of Human Services announced Jan. 10 that February is to be the final month the federal government is allowing ODHS to provide these emergency food benefits that began in April 2020 as a response to give people more help during the pandemic. Starting with March, most people on SNAP in Oregon are to receive only their regular SNAP food benefits.
