Eugene Police and Eugene Springfield Fire responded to the scene of a crash at 12:30 p.m. on August 2, in the River Road and River Loop 1 area.
Two vehicles were reported to have collided head on. Major Collision Investigations team members conducted an investigation.
Ryan Joseph Cook, age 36, of Eugene, was found to have been driving an Acura TSX northbound on River Road when he crossed into the oncoming lanes and crashed into an Acura ATL, driven by a 68-year-old Eugene man. Cook was suspected of impairment and after further investigation, including by an Oregon State Police Drug Recognition Expert, he was arrested on charges of Assault in the Third Degree, Reckless Driving, and Driving Under the Influence.
The victim in the crash was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
