At 6:42 a.m. on January 9, Eugene Police officers were dispatched to the 200 block of W. 37th Avenue after a man called 911 several times and provided multiple addresses in the area. During one of the calls, the man, later identified as William Jayhugh Friend, age 28, reported shots had been fired.

When officers contacted Friend, he appeared to be delusional, reporting people around the house with guns, who were shining lasers into the windows. Friend was detained for safety. Another man was located inside the home uninjured. After an investigation, officers found that Friend had discharged a firearm inside the house multiple times. Officers searched for the firearm and were initially unable to locate it, however it was recovered later in the day and seized.

Friend was transported to Lane County Jail and lodged for Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. 24-00371
