On February 9, around 5:08 p.m., Eugene Police received a call regarding a pedestrian-vehicle crash with two victims at the intersection of East 6th Avenue and Oak Street. A couple was walking north across E. 6th Avenue on the west side of Oak Street when a Subaru Forester took a corner and struck them, injuring both. The Subaru’s driver left the scene in the vehicle without stopping. A bystander stopped to block traffic with his van and helped move one victim out of the traffic lane. Eugene Springfield Fire responded to evaluate the victims, a male, age 49, and female, age 51, who had non-life-threatening injuries.

An officer spotted the involved Subaru near West 6th Avenue and Chambers Street, initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, Kile Clark Elder, age 29. Elder was confrontational and then resisted arrest. However, officers did an excellent job taking him into custody safely. Elder was transported to the Lane County Jail and on the way kicked the windows of the patrol vehicle.

Elder was lodged for Hit and Run Felony, two counts of Vehicular Assault, two counts of Reckless Endangering, and Resisting Arrest. Case 24-01980
