Eugene Police Property and Financial Crimes Unit had been investigating a series of thefts-from-vehicle cases in the Eugene area, where the suspect broke the windows to the vehicles and removed items such as computers and credit/bank cards, and then subsequently committed identity theft. Detectives working the cases developed probable cause to arrest a suspect, John Allen McClatchey, Jr., age 34, of Eugene.

On February 21, the unit’s detectives served two search warrants on locations associated with McClatchy, Jr.

The first location was in the 2300 block of N. Terry Street. At this location detectives recovered 16 laptop computers, an AR-15 rifle, a handgun and $6,000.

The second warrant was served in the 1800 block of W. 25th Avenue. Detectives learned McClatchy would take his stolen property to this location on a regular basis. Detectives recovered 20 laptop computers, fentanyl (user amounts), a rifle and some other stolen property.

This was the third time McClatchy was arrested in about 36 hours, as he had also been arrested by two other Lane County agencies.

McClatchy is being charged with:

Four counts of Theft in the First Degree, Theft in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, six counts of Unauthorized Entry Motor Vehicle, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Additional potential charges are pending. Case 23-01694
