On January 12, shortly after midnight, a Eugene Police officer stopped a Toyota Rav4 in the 500 block of Tyler Street. However, the driver, Jabari Lee Arbogast, Sr., age 41, of Salem, quickly got out of the vehicle and attempted to get away on foot. An officer challenged him and additional officers arrived to help take Arbogast into custody a short distance from his vehicle.

Officers could see a small handgun in plain view on the rear passenger floorboard and an ammunition container. Arbogast was recently released after 20 years in prison. The officer who stopped Arbogast quickly wrote and then obtained a judge’s signature for a search warrant for the vehicle. By 2 a.m., officers were searching the car and located three handguns, AR-15 parts, several handgun/rifle magazines, scores of ammunition, and other miscellaneous gun-related items. Two of the handguns were stolen.

Arbogast was transported to Lane County Jail and lodged on three counts of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and a warrant.
