Residents in the area of Northeast 78th Avenue and Mason Street received emergency alerts from the city Fri. night, May 6, 2022, about police activity in their neighborhood after at least a dozen shots rang out nearby. Four Focused Intervention Team officers exchanged gunshots with a motorist who was stopped for a suspected traffic violation about 9:12 p.m. as the car was heading west on Mason Street, between 78th and 79th avenues. A police evidence sticker remained on a boat parked in a driveway across from where the suspect vehicle had been stopped, according to area residents.The stretch of Northeast Mason Street, between 78th and 79th avenues, where the shooting occurred. Police had pulled over a silver Lexus, which came to a stop on the side of the road near this fence, facing west toward 78th Avenue, residents said.
