At around 1:26 a.m., Eugene Police officers responded to the area of W. 3rd Avenue and Lawrence Street after a possible gunshot wound was reported. A person in the area had seen a woman yelling that someone had been shot. The woman was reported to be running towards the railroad tracks nearby. Officers searched the area and located the woman just as she was flagging down a sergeant near W. 2nd and Lincoln Street at the tracks. She led the sergeant to a tent, advising she was helping someone breath. Additional officers arrived and inside the tent they spotted the man, who appeared to be having a medical event, not a gunshot wound.

In the blink of an eye, without hesitation, two officers began emergency, life-saving medical care. The two officers traded off performing CPR for more than five minutes until Eugene Springfield Fire could arrive and take over. Medics continued care, the man’s pulse returned and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. CAHOOTS was dispatched to help the woman. Incident number 23-010621
