OKLAHOMA CITY – Oregon State standout Mariah Mazon will play in Friday night’s Women’s College World Series game against Arizona.

Mazon, the Beavers’ top pitcher and one of their best hitters, was a surprise scratch from Thursday’s WCWS opener against Florida. The school would only say that Mazon was unavailable, and she was not in the dugout for the game.

It’s unknown whether Mazon will hit, pitch or do both against Arizona, an elimination game that starts at 6:30 p.m. (ESPN2).

Mazon is 17-11 with 1.59 earned run average and 220 strikeouts this season. The school’s career strikeout leader, Mazon is a four-time all-Pac-12 pitcher and a third-team All-American in 2022.

In addition, Mazon is one of Oregon State’s top hitters. Mazon leads the team with 40 RBI, and she is hitting .366 with 12 home runs this season.
