HERMISTON — Angelina Prihodiko wasn’t planning on being so invested in firefighting when she first started a fire science program. But she found herself relocating to Hermiston from Vancouver, Washington, to pursue a future in the field.

Prihodiko, 18, took up a position as a resident intern at Umatilla County Fire District No. 1 in July thanks to a program she took part in while in high school.
