PENDLETON — The 2023 Fourth of July festivities in Pendleton began with muted reverence, as a member of the Pendleton-based Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 922 carried the American flag ahead of the VFW Fourth of July parade.
Attendees removed their hats while others bowed their heads as the flag passed, beginning a parade that would see many Pendleton organizations flaunting flags and colorful American-themed attire aboard floats flinging candy to onlookers.
