The office of homeless services jointly run by Portland and Multnomah County wasted money intended to help veterans experiencing homelessness, an investigation by the Portland City Auditor’s Office concluded.
The city-county homelessness agency paid Portland housing nonprofit Do Good Multnomah more than $850,000 over 16 months to provide homes and support services to veterans at a publicly funded apartment complex but took no action as the nonprofit let the property deteriorate into an unsafe, unsanitary condition, according to the auditor’s report.
