Lumen has reached out to Eugene Police after Centurylink was victimized by copper theft in Eugene. The theft affected Eugene Airport operations, public safety, health services, as well as the ability of customers to access 911 and other emergency services.

The theft of cable is a serious threat to the critical infrastructure of the region, as it impacts emergencies and everyday communication. The perpetrators may use a bucket truck or a lift to access the cable and may attempt to sell the copper to scrap yards or resellers. Centurylink is seeking law enforcement assistance to investigate, to prevent further thefts. The theft, which occurred at 2600 OR Hwy. 99, involved more than $125,000 in aerial cable. This is on top of more than $1million in similar losses in 2023. 

SUSPECT/VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

The suspects may use a bucket truck or a lift to access the cable. 

Please be aware that technicians normally use marked Lumen/CenturyLink vans or trucks when they work on pedestals and cross boxes.
