On October 1, at approximately 4:10 p.m., officers from Eugene Police Department were notified of a Hit and Run vehicle accident at W. 7th Avenue and Garfield Street. The victim of the crash reported to police that a silver Mercedes sedan without license plates ran a red light and struck her vehicle broadside. That vehicle fled the scene prior to contact with law enforcement. At approximately 5:00 p.m., police were dispatched to another vehicle crash near E. 7th Avenue and Mill Street involving the same vehicle. When police arrived on scene, the suspect vehicle fled from officers at a high rate of speed, avoiding apprehension. The suspect vehicle was seen driving recklessly by multiple other callers in the Country Club, Delta Highway, and downtown corridor, and were reported to police.

Officers located the vehicle on W. 7th Avenue, traveling eastbound, as it ran another red light at Olive Street. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which fled eastbound on Broadway Avenue and then onto Franklin Boulevard. Officers pursued the vehicle southbound onto Interstate 5, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour. The vehicle exited onto Hwy. 58 eastbound and continued to Brabham Road. Officers from Eugene Police Department were assisted by Oregon State Police and Lane County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect vehicle turned around on Brabham Road and drove west on Hwy. 58, back towards Eugene. Officers placed spike strips on Hwy. 58 near Seavey Loop, successfully spiking the suspect vehicle’s tires. Police conducted a forcible stop of the vehicle on Hwy. 58, ending the pursuit.

The suspect, Jason Robert Loe, age 39, was taken into custody without further incident. Loe was lodged at Lane County Jail and charged with Elude by Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, Hit and Run, and Driving While Suspended.
