PENDLETON — Clifford Smith reminded Pendleton locals Monday morning, May 29, that Memorial Day is about more than the start of summer.

“I was guilty of that too when I first got out of the service,” the commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Let’er Buck Post No. 922 told the dozens gathered for the annual Memorial Day ceremony in an open area beside Olney Cemetery’s Avenue of Flags.
