  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) is going to increase the frontal activity over Oregon . The graphics for days 1-3 show the frontal system that’s pushing through Oregon today. The graphics for days 3-7  Monday through Friday show the frontal activity approaching the Pacific Northwest Tuesday through next Friday.
  • Note: The Hurricane season has officially begun. Hurricane Agatha struck southern Mexico and fell apart. It’s remnants have redeveloped in the Gulf of Mexico and will head for the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Cloudy with a (40%) chance of AM showers, a good (50%) chance of showers and much cooler this afternoon (under 0.10 in of rain possible), evening showers, rain late tonight (0.10 in of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy with rain Saturday (o.10 in. of rain possible), rain at night (o.50 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy with AM rain, showers with a slight (20%) chance of thunderstorms Sunday afternoon, evening showers likely (70%) with a slight (20%) chance of thunderstorms, then a good (50%) chance of showers late Sunday night.
