  • A FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM TONIGHT FOR THE NORTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON, THE SOUTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON, THE FOOTHILLS OF THE NORTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON, AND THE FOOTHILLS OF THE SOUTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON
  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) is moving eastward to be replaced by an Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape). The graphics for days 1-3 show no frontal systems pushing through Oregon until Friday. The graphics for days 3-7  Sunday through Thursday show the frontal activity over the Pacific Northwest Sunday, then another front is just offshore ready to move in next Wednesday.
  • Note: The Hurricane season has officially begun. Hurricane Agatha struck southern Mexico and fell apart. It’s remnants could redevelop in the Gulf of Mexico and head for the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Becoming mostly cloudy with a good (50%) chance of showers late tonight (under o.10 in. of rain possible),
  • Cloudy with a (40%) chance of AM showers, a good (50%) chance of showers and much cooler Friday afternoon (under 0.10 in of rain possible), evening showers, rain late Friday night (0.10 in of rain possible),
