  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) is moving eastward to be replaced by an Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape). The graphics for days 1-3 show no frontal systems pushing through Oregon until Friday. The graphics for days 3-7  Sunday through Thursday show the frontal activity over the Pacific Northwest Sunday, then another front is just offshore ready to move in next Wednesday.
  • Note: The Hurricane season has officially begun. Hurricane Agatha struck southern Mexico and fell apart. It’s remnants could redevelop in the Gulf of Mexico and head for the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • A mix of clouds and sun this afternoon,  mostly cloudy with a slight (20%) chance of showers late tonight,
  • Mostly cloudy with a good (50%) chance of AM showers, showers likely (70%) and cooler Friday afternoon (under 0.10 in of rain possible), showers likely (70%) at night (under 0.10 in of rain possible),
