THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • Upper Level High Pressure keeps us in sunshine for another day.  The graphics for days 1-3 show the frontal system that will be offshore Wednesday that falls apart as it approaches the coast. The graphics for days 3-7   Friday through Tuesday show the frontal activity approaching the Pacific Northwest Friday through Sunday.
  • Note: The Hurricane season has officially begun. Hurricane Agatha struck southern Mexico and fell apart. It’s remnants redeveloped in the Gulf of Mexico and moved across South Florida producing torrential rains, then moved over the Atlantic Ocean and became Tropical Storm Alex.
