HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

Another  Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) is sending more moisture to the Pacific Northwest in the form of an Atmospheric River. The graphics for days 1-3 show the next fronts that are headed toward the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 3-7  Thursday through Monday show the series of complex frontal systems that will slide into the Pacific Northwest through the period.

Forecast For The South Willamette Valley Including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy and a bit cooler with rain today (1.00 in. of rain possible), rain tonight (0.50 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy with showers and a bit cooler Tuesday (0.10 in. of rain possible), showers likely (70%) late at night (0.10 in. of rain possible),,
  • Mostly cloudy with a good (50%) chance of AM snow showers, a mix of clouds and sun and a bit warmer with a good (50%) chance of showers Wednesday afternoon (snow level 1,500 ft.), then partly cloudy with a slight (20%) chance of showers Wednesday night.
  • highs 53-50 warming to 52 Wednesday lows 39-32.
