  • A FLOOD WARNING HAS BEEN EXTENDED FOR THE MALHEUR RIVER NEAR VALE AFFECTING MALHEUR COUNTY.

HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

Another  Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) is sending more moisture to the Pacific Northwest in the form of a weak  Atmospheric River. The graphics for days 1-3 show the cold front that moved through the Pacific Northwest and the next one behind it.  The graphics for days 3-7  Sunday through Thursday show the continuing series of complex frontal systems that will slide into the Pacific Northwest through the period.

Note: Willamette Pass, Hoodoo, and Mt. Ashland  are still open for skiing. With the heavy snow pack the ski season is booming. Check their Web Sites for specific dates and times of operation.
