HEALTH ADVISORIES

  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) is moving inland assuring frontal systems will move through bringing even more rain. The graphics for days 1-3 show the frontal system that brought rain to the Pacific Northwest Thursday. The graphics for days 3-7  Monday through Friday show the increasing parade of frontal systems through the period.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Cloudy with a good (50%) chance of late morning-early afternoon rain, mostly cloudy and a bit warmer with rain late this afternoon (0.25 in. of rain possible), rain and cooler tonight (0.50 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy with AM rain, a bit warmer with a good (50%) chance of rain Saturday afternoon (under 0.10 in. of rain possible), a slight (20%) chance of evening rain, a slight (20%) chance of showers with patchy fog late Saturday night,
