HEALTH ADVISORIES

  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) is moving away as a short-lived Upper Level High Pressure Ridge take over. The graphics for days 1-3 show no frontal systems that moving through the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 3-7  Friday through Tuesday show only weak waves of moisture sliding through until a complex frontal system pushes through the Pacific Northwest  Friday, then the next frontal system will be just offshore Sunday moving in next Monday.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Patchy AM fog, partly cloudy and a bit warmer today, partly cloudy with areas of frost late tonight,
  • A mix of clouds and sun and a bit warmer Wednesday, becoming mostly cloudy with a good (50%) chance of rain at night,
  • Mostly cloudy and a bit cooler with rain Thursday, a good (50%) chance of evening rain, then a good (50%) chance of showers late Thursday night.
