  • WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM TODAY ABOVE 5,000 FT. FOR THE SOUTH CENTRAL OREGON CASCADES, THE SISKIYOU MOUNTAINS, AND THE SOUTHERN OREGON CASCADES.
  • WIND ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 2 AM TODAY FOR NORTHERN AND EASTERN KLAMATH COUNTY, AND WESTERN, CENTRAL, AND EASTERN LAKE COUNTY.
  • WIND ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM UNTIL 10 PM TODAY FOR THE EASTERN COLUMBIA GORGE OF OREGON.

HEALTH ADVISORIES

  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) is moving in bringing with it more rainy weather. The graphics for days 1-3 show the frontal system that moved through the Pacific Northwest Friday. The graphics for days 3-7  Tuesday through Saturday show only weak waves of moisture sliding through until a complex frontal system pushes through the Pacific Northwest Thursday and Thursday night, then the next frontal system will be offshore next Saturday.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy with AM showers likely (70%), much cooler with showers and a slight (20%) chance of thunderstorms this afternoon (0.25 in. of rain possible, small hail possible in the afternoon), evening showers likely (70%) with a slight (20%) chance of thunderstorms (small hail possible), showers late tonight (0.10 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy with showers and a slight (20%) chance of thunderstorms and a bit cooler Sunday (0.25 in. of rain possible, small hail possible) and in the evening, a good (50%) chance of showers late at night (0.10 in. of rain possible),
