HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) is moving and will push frontal systems our way. The graphics for days 1-3 show the cold front that will move through the Pacific Northwest Sunday and the next one behind it Monday. The graphics for days 3-7  Tuesday through next Sunday show the continuing series of complex frontal systems that will slide into the Pacific Northwest through the period.

Forecast For The South Willamette Valley Including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy tonight,
  • Mostly cloudy, some sun peeks, with AM rain, showers and a bit warmer Sunday with a slight (20%) chance of afternoon thunderstorms (0.25 in. of rain possible, more in storms), evening showers likely (70%) with a slight (20%) chance of thunderstorms, a (20%) chance of showers late Sunday night (under 0.10 in. of rain possible, more in storms),
