  • A RECREATIONAL USE HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR GALESVILLE RESERVOIR IN DOUGLAS COUNTY DUE TO THE PRESENCE OF A CYANOBACTERIA BLOOM. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS OF THE RESERVOIR WHERE BLOOMS ARE, AS THE MAJOR ROUTE OF EXPOSURE IS INGESTION OF WATER. TOXINS ARE NOT ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN, HOWEVER, THOSE WITH SKIN SENSITIVITIES MAY GET A PUFFY RED RASH. THE OREGON HEALTH AUTHORITY ENCOURAGES PEOPLE TO VISIT THE GALESVILLE RESERVOIR AND ENJOY ACTIVITIES SUCH AS FISHING, CAMPING, HIKING, BILKING, PICNICKING, BIRD WATCHING, CANOEING, AND KAYAKING. BOATING IS SAFE AS LONG AS SPEEDS DO NOT CREATE EXCESSIVE WATER SPRAY.. SPRAYS COULD LEAD TO THE RISK OF INHALING CYANOTOXINS.
  • A PERMANENT HEALTH ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER BAR. POOLS IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP BLUE-GREEN ALGAE (CYANOBACTERIAL) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETSAn Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) offshore keeps our weather pattern stable with a bit above normal temperatures. The graphics for days 1-3  show a frontal system falling apart just to our north. The graphics for days 3-7   Tuesday through Saturday show a frontal system moving through Tuesday and Wednesday with another approaching the coast next Thursday and Friday.  Haze and smoke have finally reached Eugene and Springfield. AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED ALONG SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE  RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) keeps our weather pattern stable with a bit above normal temperatures. Upper level High Pressure takes over for serious heating starting Saturday. The graphics for days 1-3  show a cold front moving into the Pacific Northwest today for cooling, but it won’t be a rain producer and it won’t last long. The graphics for days 3-7   Saturday through Wednesday show a frontal system to our north next Monday, but none moving into the Pacific Northwest.

Forecast For The South Willamette Valley Including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Partly cloudy tonight,
  • AM clouds and sun, sunny and a bit cooler Thursday afternoon, clear Thursday night,
  • Then sunny and a bit warmer Friday and Saturday, clear both nights,
  • lows 58-56 Thursday night warming to 60 Saturday night highs 83-92.
  • Mostly sunny and a bit warmer Sunday, mostly clear Sunday night,
  • Mostly sunny and a bit warmer, Hot, Monday, mostly clear at night,
  • Sunny and a bit cooler, still Hot Tuesday, mostly clear Tuesday night,
  • Then mostly sunny and Hot Wednesday.

  • AM clouds with patchy dense fog, sunny and a bit warmer Thursday afternoon, mostly clear with patchy fog late Thursday night,
  • Patchy AM coastal fog, sunny Friday, clear at night,
  • Sunny Saturday, then mostly clear Saturday night.
