HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) is sending frontal systems our way and still even more moisture. The graphics for days 1-3 show a complex frontal system, warm front first followed by a cold front. The graphics for days 3-7  Sunday through next Thursday show the continuing series of complex frontal systems that will slide into the Pacific Northwest through the period.

Forecast For The South Willamette Valley Including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy with rain tonight (0.25 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy and a bit warmer with a good (50%) chance of showers Friday (under 0.10 in. of rain possible), a good (50%) chance of evening showers, a slight (20%) chance of showers late Friday night (under 0.10 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy with a slight (20%) chance of showers and a bit warmer Saturday and in the evening (under 0.10 in. of rain possible), a good (50%) chance of showers late at night (under 0.10 in. of rain possible),
