HEALTH ADVISORIES

  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) is moving inland assuring frontal systems will move through bringing even more rain. The graphics for days 1-3 show the frontal system that fell apart as it moved into Oregon Sunday. The graphics for days 3-7  Thursday through Monday show the frontal system through into Early Thursday, then another frontal system will be offshore next Sunday.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Cloudy with a slight (20%) chance of AM showers, a mix of clouds and sun and a bit cooler this afternoon, partly cloudy with patchy fog late tonight,
  • Partly cloudy and a bit warmer Tuesday and in the evening, mostly cloudy  late at night,
  • Mostly cloudy with AM rain, showers likely (70%) and a bit cooler Wednesday afternoon, then a good (50%) chance of showers late Wednesday night.
