  • A PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT IS IN EFFECT FOR UNSAFE LEVELS OF FECAL BACTERIA IN OCEAN WATERS AT SHORT SAND BEACH IN TILLAMOOK COUNTY. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID DIRECT CONTACT WITH WATER IN THIS AREA UNTIL THE ADVISORY IS LIFTED. UNSAFE LEVELS OF FECAL BACTERIA CAN CAUSE DIARRHEA, STOMACH CRAMPS, SKIN RASHES,UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS AND OTHER ILLNESSES. CHILDREN, ELDERLY AND THOSE WITH A COMPROMISED IMMUNE SYSTEM SHOULD USE EXTRA CAUTION AS THEY ARE MORE VULNERABLE TO ILLNESSES FROM WATERBORNE BACTERIA. VISITORS SHOULD AVOID WADING IN NEARBY CREEKS, POOLS OF WATER ON THE BEACH, OR IN DISCOLORED WATER, AND STAY CLEAR OF WATER RUNOFF FLOWING INTO THE OCEAN. LEVELS OF FECAL BACTERIA TEND TO BE HIGHER IN THESE TYPES OF WATER SOURCES.
  • A RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF UPPER KLAMATH LAKE IN KLAMATH COUNTY INCLUDING SHOALWATER BAY DUE THE PRESENCE OF A CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOM AND CYANOTOXINS ABOVE RECREATIONAL USE VALUES FOR HUMAN EXPOSURE. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH-SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS OF THE LAKE WHERE BLOOMS ARE, AS THE MAJOR RISK OF EXPOSURE IS FROM INGESTING WATER. THESE TOXINS ARE NOT ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE SKIN SENSITIVITIES  YOU MAY GET A PUFFY RED RASH. IT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SPECIAL CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH CHILDREN, ESPECIALLY THE YOUNGER ONES, WHEN THEY ARE NEAR THE WATER.
  • NOTE: THE RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY ISSUED FOR THE WILLAMETTE RIVER NEAR CATHEDRAL PARK IN NORTH PORTLAND  AND UPSTREAM (SOUTH) TO THE WILLAMETTE COVE AREA NEAR THE SP&S RAILROAD BRIDGE DUE THE PRESENCE OF A CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOM AND CYANOTOXINS HAS BEEN LIFTED.   • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) is moving to the east away from us allowing frontal movement. The graphics for days 1-3 show a cold front moving through Oregon today. The graphics for days 3-7  Monday through Wednesday show the frontal system that will be to our northwest next Wednesday.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy with rain likely (70%) and a bit cooler today and this evening (0.25 in. of rain possible), showers likely (70%) late tonight (0.10 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy with a good (50%) chance of showers Thursday (under 0.10 in. of rain possible), partly cloudy with patchy fog at night,
  • Some AM clouds with patchy fog, mostly sunny and a bit warmer Friday afternoon, then clear Friday night.
