  • A RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR WILLOW CREEK RESERVOIR IN MORROW COUNTY DUE THE PRESENCE OF A CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOM AND CYANOTOXINS ABOVE RECREATIONAL USE VALUES FOR HUMAN EXPOSURE. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH-SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS OF THE LAKE WHERE BLOOMS ARE, AS THE MAJOR RISK OF EXPOSURE IS FROM INGESTING WATER. THESE TOXINS ARE NOT ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE SKIN SENSITIVITIES  YOU MAY GET A PUFFY RED RASH. IT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) continues giving us above normal temperatures. The graphics for days 1-3 show a frontal system falling apart as it moved through Oregon. The graphics for days 3-7  Saturday through Wednesday show no frontal systems approaching the Pacific Northwest until a cold front positions itself offshore to our northwest early Monday to push through and fall apart by late in the day into next Tuesday.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Sunny and a bit warmer today, clear with patchy fog tonight,
  • Patchy AM and late night fog, sunny Thursday, clear Thursday night,
  • Patchy AM fog, sunny Friday afternoon, then mostly clear Friday night.
  • highs near 80 lows 47-46.
