  • AN AIR QUALITY ADVISORY FOR WILDFIRE SMOKE IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM MONDAY FOR ALL OF LANE COUNTY, CLACKAMAS COUNTY, COLUMBIA COUNTY, MULTNOMAH COUNTY, AND WASHINGTON COUNTY.

  • A RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR WILLOW CREEK RESERVOIR IN MORROW COUNTY DUE THE PRESENCE OF A CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOM AND CYANOTOXINS ABOVE RECREATIONAL USE VALUES FOR HUMAN EXPOSURE. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH-SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS OF THE LAKE WHERE BLOOMS ARE, AS THE MAJOR RISK OF EXPOSURE IS FROM INGESTING WATER. THESE TOXINS ARE NOT ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE SKIN SENSITIVITIES  YOU MAY GET A PUFFY RED RASH. IT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) continues giving us above normal temperatures. The graphics for days 1-3 show no frontal systems near Oregon. The graphics for days 3-7  Tuesday through Saturday show no frontal systems approaching the Pacific Northwest until a cold front positions itself offshore to our northwest Tuesday. Then a front will be to our northwest Thursday and Friday then pushing through next Saturday.
  • With wildfires, one to the north near the Columbia River in Washington and the other to our southeast The Cedar Creek fire, we can expect intrusions of smoke on and off for the foreseeable future.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Sunny and hazy and cooler with patchy smoke today, partly cloudy and hazy with patchy fog and smoke late tonight,
  • A mix of clouds and sun hazy and a bit cooler with patchy smoke Monday, partly cloudy at night,
  • Some AM clouds, mostly sunny and a bit warmer Tuesday afternoon, then mostly clear Tuesday night.
