  • A RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR WILLOW CREEK RESERVOIR IN MORROW COUNTY DUE THE PRESENCE OF A CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOM AND CYANOTOXINS ABOVE RECREATIONAL USE VALUES FOR HUMAN EXPOSURE. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH-SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS OF THE LAKE WHERE BLOOMS ARE, AS THE MAJOR RISK OF EXPOSURE IS FROM INGESTING WATER. THESE TOXINS ARE NOT ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE SKIN SENSITIVITIES  YOU MAY GET A PUFFY RED RASH. IT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) continues giving us above normal temperatures. The graphics for days 1-3 show a complex frontal system just offshore. The graphics for days 3-7  Friday through Tuesday show a cold front moving through Saturday. Then a front will be to our northwest Sunday pushing in Monday.Yet another front will be to our northwest next Tuesday.
  • With wildfires, one to the north near the Columbia River in Washington and the other to our southeast The Cedar Creek fire, we can expect intrusions of smoke on and off for the foreseeable future.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • AM clouds and sun with patchy fog, sunny and hazy with areas of  smoke and slightly cooler this afternoon, hazy with areas of evening smoke, clear and hazy tonight,
  • Hazy with areas of AM smoke, mostly sunny and a bit warmer Wednesday afternoon, clear at night,
  • Mostly sunny and a bit cooler Thursday, then partly cloudy with patchy fog Thursday night.
