  • A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM TODAY FOR HARNEY COUNTY AND MALHEUR COUNTY.
  • A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM TODAY FOR THE KLAMATH BASIN.

HEALTH ADVISORIES

  • A RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR WILLOW CREEK RESERVOIR IN MORROW COUNTY DUE THE PRESENCE OF A CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOM AND CYANOTOXINS ABOVE RECREATIONAL USE VALUES FOR HUMAN EXPOSURE. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH-SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS OF THE LAKE WHERE BLOOMS ARE, AS THE MAJOR RISK OF EXPOSURE IS FROM INGESTING WATER. THESE TOXINS ARE NOT ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE SKIN SENSITIVITIES  YOU MAY GET A PUFFY RED RASH. IT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SPECIAL CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH CHILDREN, ESPECIALLY THE YOUNGER ONES, WHEN THEY ARE NEAR THE WATER.

THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • The Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) still controls our weather, but an Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) will soon take over bringing clear skies and cold nights to the Pacific Northwest. Watch out for freezing low temperatures with widespread frost. The graphics for days 1-3 show the cold frontal system that dropped into Oregon from the north. The graphics for days 3-7  Friday through Tuesday show the frontal activity for the period.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Widespread AM frost with patchy fog, mostly sunny and a bit warmer this afternoon, mostly clear with widespread frost and patchy fog late tonight,
  • Partly cloudy with widespread AM frost with patchy fog, sunny Thursday afternoon, partly cloudy in the evening, widespread frost and patchy fog late at night,
  • Patchy AM fog, mostly cloudy and a bit cooler Friday afternoon (Veterans Day), then mostly cloudy widespread frost and patchy fog Friday night.
  • highs 52-48 lows 28-30.
  • Widespread AM frost with patchy fog, a mix of clouds and sun and a bit warmer Saturday afternoon, partly cloudy with widespread frost and patchy fog Saturday night,
