HEALTH ADVISORIES

  • A RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR WILLOW CREEK RESERVOIR IN MORROW COUNTY DUE THE PRESENCE OF A CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOM AND CYANOTOXINS ABOVE RECREATIONAL USE VALUES FOR HUMAN EXPOSURE. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH-SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS OF THE LAKE WHERE BLOOMS ARE, AS THE MAJOR RISK OF EXPOSURE IS FROM INGESTING WATER. THESE TOXINS ARE NOT ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE SKIN SENSITIVITIES  YOU MAY GET A PUFFY RED RASH. IT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) continues to bring clear skies and cold nights to the Pacific Northwest. Watch out for freezing low temperatures with fog and possible widespread frost. The graphics for days 1-3 show the lack of frontal activity over the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 3-7  Saturday through Wednesday show the complex frontal system that will be approaching the coast through Monday and moving in Tuesday and next Wednesday.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Areas of AM frost, mostly sunny and a bit cooler this afternoon,  partly cloudy with areas of frost tonight,
  • Mostly cloudy with AM frost, partly cloudy and a bit warmer Thursday afternoon, partly cloudy in the evening, mostly clear with areas of frost late at night,
  • Areas of AM frost, mostly sunny Friday afternoon, then mostly clear Friday night.
