PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH-SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS OF THE LAKE WHERE BLOOMS ARE, AS THE MAJOR RISK OF EXPOSURE IS FROM INGESTING WATER. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) brings in northwest airflow. The graphics for days 1-3 show the cold frontal system that moved through the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 3-7  Thursday through Monday show the complex frontal systems that will move in through the period.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy with showers and a slight (20%) chance of thunderstorms through early afternoon, a bit cooler today with a good (50%) chance of late afternoon showers (0.10 in. of rain possible, more in storms), partly cloudy with a good (50%) chance of showers and snow showers tonight, patchy fog late (under 0.10 in. of rain possible, no snow accumulation expected, snow level 1,000 ft. falling to 500 ft. late at night),
