PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH-SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS OF THE LAKE WHERE BLOOMS ARE, AS THE MAJOR RISK OF EXPOSURE IS FROM INGESTING WATER. THESE TOXINS ARE NOT ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE SKIN SENSITIVITIES  YOU MAY GET A PUFFY RED RASH. IT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) returns the airflow that brings in storms.  The graphics for days 1-3 show the frontal system that continues to move through the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 3-7  Tuesday through Saturday show the parade of frontal systems headed our way.
  • **Note: Ski season is under way. Willamette Pass is open Wednesday-Sunday, Hoodoo is open Thursday through Sunday, and Mt. Ashland is opening Saturday December 10th 9 am til 4 pm through December 12th. Check their web pages for updates and snow conditions.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:
