AN AIR QUALITY ALERT IS IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE FOR CURRY COUNTY, JACKSON COUNTY, JOSEPHINE COUNTY, KLAMATH COUNTY, AND LAKE COUNTY DUE TO SMOKE FROM THE RUM CREEK WILDFIRE.

A RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF UPPER KLAMATH LAKE IN KLAMATH COUNTY INCLUDING SHOALWATER BAY DUE THE PRESENCE OF A CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOM AND CYANOTOXINS ABOVE RECREATIONAL USE VALUES FOR HUMAN EXPOSURE. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH-SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS OF THE LAKE WHERE BLOOMS ARE, AS THE MAJOR RISK OF EXPOSURE IS FROM INGESTING WATER. THESE TOXINS ARE NOT ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE SKIN SENSITIVITIES YOU MAY GET A PUFFY RED RASH. IT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) moves closer to the coast for some short lived cooling. The graphics for days 1-3 show a weak cold front moving through Oregon. The graphics for days 3-7 Tuesday through Saturday show more active weather patterns over the Pacific Northwest with frontal activity Wednesday. Another cold front will be approaching from the northwest next Saturday.
