HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) approaches the coast and decreases the rain chances. The graphics for days 1-3 show the next cold front to move through the Pacific Northwest Saturday. The graphics for days 3-7   for Monday through Friday show active weather systems headed our way through the period.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Partly cloudy with patchy evening fog, mostly cloudy with areas of fog and freezing fog late tonight,
  • A mix of clouds and sun with a good (50%) chance of AM showers, cloudy and a bit warmer with a good (50%) chance of showers Saturday afternoon, a good (50%) chance of showers late Saturday night (under 0.10 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy with a slight (20%) chance of AM showers, just partly cloudy and a bit cooler Sunday afternoon, mostly cloudy at night,
  • Then partly cloudy Monday and Monday night.
