  • A WIND ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM THURSDAY  FOR THE GRANDE RONDE VALLEY.
  • AN AIR STAGNATION ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM MST (MOUNTAIN STANDARD TIME) FRIDAY FOR HARNEY COUNTY, BAKER COUNTY, MALHEUR COUNTY, AND THE OREGON LOWER TREASURE VALLEY.

HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

A very strong Jet Stream flow www.wunderground.com/maps/wind/jet-stream  from the northeast and sent much cooler air to the Pacific Northwest. A strong cold front www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov  pushed through the Pacific Northwest from the northeast (called a backdoor cold front) bringing colder air with it. It will take a while for temperatures to warm back up again. There will be frontal activity returning by the end of the week, but not of the bitter cold airflow nature.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Partly cloudy this evening, becoming mostly cloudy late tonight,
  • A mix of clouds and sun and a bit warmer Wednesday, becoming mostly cloudy Wednesday night,
  • Cloudy and a bit warmer with a (40%) chance of rain Thursday afternoon, rain at night (under 0.10 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy and a bit warmer with rain Friday, then cloudy with a good (50%) chance of rain Friday night.
  • lows 28-39 highs 45-50.
  • Cloudy with a good (50%) chance of AM rain, a bit warmer with rain likely (70%) Saturday afternoon, rain Saturday night,
  • Mostly cloudy and a bit cooler with rain Sunday, a good (50%) chance of rain at night,
