  • AN AIR STAGNATION ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM MST (MOUNTAIN STANDARD TIME) FRIDAY FOR HARNEY COUNTY, BAKER COUNTY, MALHEUR COUNTY, AND THE OREGON LOWER TREASURE VALLEY.

HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge www.wunderground.com/maps/wind/jet-stream  (“Arch” shape) is slowly warming up the Pacific Northwest. A strong cold front www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov  pushed through the Pacific Northwest from the northeast (called a backdoor cold front) and brought colder air with it.  There will be frontal activity returning by the end of the week, but not of the bitter cold airflow nature.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Some AM clouds, a mix of clouds and sun to mostly cloudy with sun breaks and a bit cooler this afternoon, cloudy with a good (50%) chance of rain late tonight (under 0.10 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy and a bit warmer with rain Friday (under 0.10 in. of rain possible), cloudy with a good (50%) chance of evening rain, a slight (20%) chance of rain late at night,
  • Cloudy with a (40%) chance of rain and a bit warmer Saturday, then rain Saturday night.
  • highs 48-56 lows 39-42.
  • Mostly cloudy and a bit cooler with rain Sunday, showers likely (70%) Sunday night,
