A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM SUNDAY UNTIL 4 AM MONDAY ABOVE 3,500 FT. FOR THE NORTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON, THE EAST SLOPES OF THE OREGON CASCADES, AND THE NORTHWEST BLUE MOUNTAINS.

HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) is slowly warming up the Pacific Northwest. Frontal activity has returned, but not of the bitter cold airflow nature. The graphics for days 1-3 show our the frontal system moving in. The graphics for days 3-7 show more frontal activity moving our way Tuesday through Saturday.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

Cloudy with a good (50%) chance of AM rain, mostly cloudy with rain likely (70%) and slightly warmer this afternoon (under 0.10 in. of rain possible), rain tonight (0.25 in. of rain possible),
Mostly cloudy with showers and cooler Sunday (0.10 in. of rain possible), a good (50%) chance of showers late Sunday night,
Mostly cloudy with a slight (20%) chance of showers Monday and in the evening, then a (40%) chance of rain late Monday night.
