  • A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM WEDNESDAY ABOVE 4,500 FT. FOR THE CASCADES IN LANE COUNTY AND THE NORTHERN OREGON CASCADES.
  • A WIND ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM WEDNESDAY FOR THE FOOTHILLS OF THE NORTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON.

HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch “shape) takes over clearing skies and removing the rain. The graphics for days 1-3 show the next frontal system poised to move into the Pacific Northwest late Thursday. The graphics for days 3-7 show more frontal activity moving our way Saturday through next Wednesday.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • A mix of clouds and sun and a bit cooler today, partly cloudy tonight,
  • Mostly cloudy start, partly cloudy and warmer Thursday afternoon, mostly cloudy with rain likely (70%) at night (0.10 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy and cooler with rain Friday, a good (50%) chance of evening rain, then slight (20%) chance of rain late Friday night.
