HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U “shape) is approaching the coast and allowing moisture in the form of clouds to move over the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 1-3 show no major frontal system headed our way. The graphics for days 3-7 show more complex frontal activity moving our way Monday through next Friday returning the rain chances and raising overnight low temperatures.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy, possible sun breaks, and a bit cooler today, mostly cloudy with patchy fog late tonight,
  • Patchy AM fog, mostly cloudy, possible sun breaks, and a bit warmer Sunday, mostly cloudy at night,
  • Mostly cloudy with a slight (20%) chance of rain Monday (President’s Day), then rain Monday night.
  • highs 48-52 lows 33-39.
  • Mostly cloudy and a bit cooler with rain Tuesday, snow likely (70%) with rain Tuesday night (snow level 1,000 ft.),
  • Mostly cloudy and a bit cooler with snow and rain likely (70%) Wednesday (snow level 500 ft.), evening snow likely (70%), a good (50%) chance of snow late at night,
