HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U “shape) is slowly moving southward over the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 1-3 show the frontal that moved through Oregon.  The graphics for days 3-7 show more complex frontal activity moving our way Sunday through next Thursday giving us chances of getting wet.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy with AM rain and a good (50%) chance of snow (snow level 1,000 ft.), rain likely (70%) and a bit cooler this afternoon (0.10 in. of rain possible, snow level 1,500 ft.), evening showers likely (70%),  rain and snow showers likely (70%) late tonight (under 0.10 in. of rain possible, snow level 1,000 ft.),
