HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper LeAn Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) has not moved so it’s still keeping us with the rain chances. The graphics for days 1-3 show the next frontal system headed through Oregon last night.  The graphics for days 3-7 show more complex frontal systems moving our way Monday through next Friday giving us chances of getting wet.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy with a good (50%) chance of evening showers, a slight (20%) chance of showers late tonight (0.10 in. of rain possible),
  • A mix of clouds and sun and a bit warmer with a slight (20%) chance of showers Saturday (under 0.10 in. of rain possible), partly cloudy with a slight (20%) chance of evening showers, mostly cloudy with rain likely (70%) and patchy fog late Saturday night (under 0.10 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy with rain (0.10 in. of rain possible) Sunday (Daylight Saving time starts 2 am), rain at night (0.25 in. of rain possible) and breezy (Wind: S 5-15 mph gusts to 30 mph increasing to S 15-25 mph gusts to 35 mph late at night),
