  • A BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE WALLOWA MOUNTAINS SOUTH.

HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • The Upper Level Airflow has been sending moisture west to east straight into the Pacific Northwest, but behind the cold front we get colder. . The graphics for days 1-3 show the cold front moving through and out of the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 3-7 show more complex frontal systems moving our way Thursday through next Monday giving us more chances of getting wet.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy with a good (50%) chance of evening showers, partly cloudy and colder with patchy fog late tonight (under 0.10 in. rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy with patchy AM fog, a slight (20%) chance of showers and a bit cooler Tuesday afternoon (under 0.10 in. of rain possible), a good (50%) chance of showers Tuesday night with patchy fog late (under 0.10 in. of rain possible),
