  • A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM SATURDAY FOR THE NORTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON  AND THE NORTHWEST BLUE MOUNTAINS.

HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) is approaching the Pacific Northwest and the Atmospheric River remains well to the south moving over central and southern California. The graphics for days 1-3 show the frontal system that moved through Oregon Thursday. The graphics for days 3-7 show an increase in complex frontal systems moving our way Monday through next Friday continuing the rain chances.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy with AM snow, showers and a slight (20%) chance of afternoon thunderstorms today (0.25 in. of rain possible, small hail possible, little or no snow accumulation expected, snow level 1,000 ft.), evening rain and snow showers with a slight (20%) chance of thunderstorms (small hail possible), rain and snow showers tonight (0.25 in. of rain possible, 1 in. of snow possible, snow level 500 ft.),
  • Mostly cloudy with AM rain showers and snow showers (snow level 500 ft.), showers with a slight (20%) chance of thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and evening (0.10 in. of rain possible), rain and snow showers likely (70%) late at night (under 0.10 in. of rain possible, evening small hail possible, snow level 500 ft.),
