  • A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM SATURDAY FOR THE NORTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON  AND THE NORTHWEST BLUE MOUNTAINS.

HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) continues to control the weather of the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 1-3 show no frontal systems approaching the Oregon coast. The graphics for days 3-7 show an increase in complex frontal systems moving our way Monday through next Friday continuing the rain chances.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy with a (30%) chance of evening showers and a slight (20%) chance of snow showers and a slight (20%) chance of thunderstorms (small hail possible), rain and snow showers late tonight (0.25 in. of rain possible, more in storms, 1 in. of snow possible, snow level 1,000 ft.),
  • Mostly cloudy with AM snow showers likely (70%) and rain showers, showers with a slight (20%) chance of thunderstorms and a bit cooler Saturday afternoon (snow level 1,000 ft), evening snow showers likely (70%) with showers and a slight (20%) chance of thunderstorms with small hail possible, a good (50%) chance of snow and rain showers late Saturday night (0.10 in. of rain possible, evening small hail possible, snow level 500 ft.),
