HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) continues to control the weather of the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 1-3 show a complex frontal system moving through Oregon Tuesday. The graphics for days 3-7 show an increase in complex frontal systems moving our way Thursday through next Monday continuing the rain chances.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy with rain tonight (0.50 in. of rain  possible),
  • Mostly cloudy with AM rain, a good (50%) chance of rain and cooler Tuesday afternoon (0.10 in. of rain possible), a good (50%) chance of evening showers, just partly cloudy with patchy frost late Tuesday night,
  • Mostly cloudy with patchy AM frost, partly cloudy and a bit warmer with a slight (20%) chance of showers Wednesday afternoon and evening, a slight (20%) chance of evening showers, partly cloudy with patchy fog late at night,
