  • A RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR AREAS AROUND EAGLE RIDGE  COUNTY PARK IN UPPER KLAMATH LAKE IN KLAMATH COUNTY DUE THE PRESENCE OF A CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOM AND CYANOTOXINS ABOVE RECREATIONAL USE VALUES FOR HUMAN EXPOSURE. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH-SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS OF THE LAKE WHERE BLOOMS ARE, AS THE MAJOR RISK OF EXPOSURE IS FROM INGESTING WATER. THESE TOXINS ARE NOT ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE SKIN SENSITIVITIES  YOU MAY GET A PUFFY RED RASH. IT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SPECIAL CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH CHILDREN, ESPECIALLY THE YOUNGER ONES, WHEN THEY ARE NEAR THE WATER
  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • The Upper Level Low Pressure Trough is slowly moving Northeastward away from us. The graphics for days 1-3 show no frontal systems moving over or into the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 3-7   Wednesday through Sunday show the frontal activity for the Pacific Northwest through the period with a cold front moving through Oregon Wednesday and more activity as a cold front slides through Saturday and next Sunday.
  • NOTE: Monday will be a HOT day and Tuesday will only cool a bit. Be prepared to drink plenty of water and, if you can, stay where it is cooled by air conditioning.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly sunny and a bit warmer today, mostly clear tonight,
  • Mostly sunny and hot Monday, clear at night,
  • Mostly sunny and a bit cooler Tuesday, then partly cloudy Tuesday night.
  • highs 84-94 cooling to 89 Tuesday lows 56-59 cooling to 55 Tuesday night.
